This story, is no myth, for it is truth!
For it is about bunbuns and rabbits alike....
Creatures so fragile and easily hurt, that at some point they were almost hunted down to extinction. Foxes and arrows were not their only concern, they were easily mangled by norrats, necromancers and orcs alike, easily feasted on and used as blood vessels for sacrifice.
The bunnies, who greatly suffered, begged to the moonlight of Inil,
‘Help us, for at all angles we are can not survive!’
Inil, the Eldest of Light and Love, who felt for the small ones responded,
‘Be brave little ones, do not mourn. Travel towards the sunrise, until you can not see it no more. Then see my light glow before your paws and go, and there you shall find peace. But do not look back.’
The rabbits did as they were told, fleeing from these parts, and never looking back. Dire beasts took many of them as the traveled the rough terrain, but still, they did not turn back. Despite their frailness, they did not loose hope, they trusted their Eldest and sprinted together towards sunrise.
As it the sun fell at dusk, as promised, the rabbits saw glowing mushrooms lead their path in to thickets and new places. In to the soothing villages and regions where Orcs and Norrats could not be found, for these places were well protected by other beings, beings not like them?
They had swords and blades, weaved magical things? Kept the dark ones from using them for darker horrid things. It was here, the rabbits felt safe.
These beings paid them no heed, never hunted them out of Malice or Dark Magic. Just like the fox, only some caught them if they were fast enough for their meat. But many times, the rabbits chased them in circles amused with their dogs, for not always they could be caught!
Pleased, the rabbits knew it was here they could flourished! Their journey has ended! Peaked with their ears they surveyed the many farms to live by! Cabbages, carrots, and left over harvests, even if they only take a few, the farmers would not noticed! They nested here, and prosperity reign for the fuzzy tailed ones.
With renewed happiness, they pledge that one day they will show appreciation for all these things!
-------
Years wane by, and the world fell in a new terror. One that the bunbuns did not understand?
Farms fell in drought, people disappeared, and strange forces soaked the earth with blood.
The 3rd War.
All creatures fled, feeling the darkness in the air. There was devastation of fallen soilders from kingdoms of elves, humans, kojin, halflings and more. Injuries were common, and most brigades were loosing strength against the battles ahead with not having much to eat.
For many farmers replaced their pitch forks for blades, to served the great battalion against the darkness, which meant there was no crops or harvest.
The world was in great stress and hope for the allied races was waning.
A bitter winter fell, and soon the most innocent of children began to suffer, dying from hunger and flues.
It was then, the rabbits among themselves, who felt the great calamity spoke to one another under a full moon night,
“They have done much for us, we feed on their crops and ask nothing of them, they keep the horrid beings away,…let us give our last stand. We must show our gratitude to the Eldest of the Light!”
And so, the noble small bunnies, as white as snow, made a vow to hop slower, move less quickly, and let the people capture them. To let them eat their meat, to give them strength and continue on in battle. To let the people to make them in to rabbit stews and feed their families. Their small fur linings help feet travel the bitter cold, children recovered from flues, and soilders with injuries were healed by using rabbit fur and soft leather as bandages.
In every direction, the noble bunny has contributed in their tinny small ways to the Great 3rd War. Bit by bit, a renewed strength grew, a great rush to help towards the last battle stands. They with new hope, charged fiercely in to battle and defeated the dark elves, purging them towards the Exiled Realms....
The war was over and Peace reign once again....
Inil, who watched it all from her light, was touched by the selfless small bunbuns. She came to them on a moonlight to bless the remaining few left in her embrace.
“For your sacrifice and noble hearts, your family will grow exponentially in winter, for this you shall be most fertile! May you be fruitful and continue your selfless message of courage and light.”
And so it was known! All bunnies became the most fertile of creatures! Their families grew and the balance was restored as prosperity rang all over the continent.
Farmers returned to their homelands and harvest were plenty once more.
Until today, this legend has traveled and inspired, how bunnies are a sign of prosperity, a symbol of hope and love, a noble little creature. They are still seen in artworks, statues, and additional myths among the people.
A reminder to all, no matter how small or vulnerable you are, you can make a great difference.
And if should you not find hope? Do as does the bunbun, look towards the sun and moonlight, and see the Eldest I'nil there, to guide you and inspire you to do brave and courageous things.
